Three ways to make AI useful
AI can help you gather knowledge, create something useful and reflect on an experience. It can also get things wrong or agree too readily with the way a question is framed. The method matters.
Ask a clearer question.
Organize what you are learning and check the sources behind an answer.
Make something yours.
Turn an idea into a reading plan, a piece of writing, a visual brief or a project that matters to you.
Keep room for uncertainty.
Explore more than one interpretation while keeping observations, assumptions and unknowns separate.

Small steps. Useful results.
Build something you can understand and change.
The planned course walks through a small workspace: core instructions, a few repeatable workflows, a memory note you control and a place for knowledge you want to keep.
We’ll start with one conversation and a simple document. You do not need to begin with a complicated system.

More room for your own thinking.
This is for people curious about AI, interested in family systems and ready to create a fuller life beyond continually analyzing their family.
The aim is to help you develop your approach, with questions you can inspect and choices you can make for yourself.
This is education. It does not provide diagnosis, individualized treatment or crisis care, and it does not replace professional support.

Your guide
Why I’m teaching it
I’m Blake Anderson, MSW, RSW—a registered social worker and psychotherapist, coach and educator. My work focuses on family scapegoating and emotionally immature family systems.
I also use AI in my own research and creative work. This course brings those interests together in practical, inspectable steps.
Within The Ascent
Learning you can return to.

Before you begin
Questions you may have
Do I need to be technical?
The introduction starts with one conversation and a simple document. The planned lessons use short demonstrations, plain language and examples you can edit.
Do I have to share my family history?
No. You can learn with a fictional example. Start with the least information needed for the task, and never assume changing names makes a detailed story anonymous.
Is AI private?
That depends on the tool, its settings and where processing happens. A local document used by a cloud AI can still be sent to that service. We’ll distinguish cloud controls, minimal disclosure and genuinely local models. No tool is presented as a blanket confidentiality guarantee.
Will it tell me whether someone is a narcissist?
That is not the purpose. It can help you organize a question or explore possible interpretations; a confident answer is not a diagnosis or proof of another person’s motives.
Can I use ChatGPT or Claude?
Those are the two tools planned for demonstrations. The underlying documents will be portable. Exact features, accounts and any paid-plan requirements will be stated after testing the lesson workflows.
When will it be ready?
It is in development. Join the interest list for the free introduction and accurate release updates.
Do I need to join the community to try the introduction?
No. The introduction will be free through the signup. Full-course access is planned within The Ascent; any separate course-only option is still being considered.
