Stop just understanding the family system. Start living beyond it.
You may already be able to name the scapegoating, triangulation, gaslighting, or emotionally immature patterns. The harder part is holding onto yourself when guilt, grief, family pressure, or one message from home pulls you back into the old role.
The Ascent combines a 15-chapter course, a 32-page Ascent workbooklet, a private community, and two live calls each week so you can practise steadier reality-trust, differentiation, honest limits, and a life beyond the role you were assigned.

The Ascent is an educational course and community. Blake is coach, facilitator, and educator here — not your therapist. It is not emergency care and not a replacement for individualized treatment.
Start here: why understanding the pattern is not the same as being free from it
Ninety days of not having to explain it first.
The missing piece is not another video. It is a held stretch of practice: a room that already knows the pattern, a weekly rhythm, and someone facilitating so you do not spend the hour proving the story is real.
For 90 days you get the map, the room, the guide, and the practice. You show up. You do the reps when guilt, grief, or one message from home tries to put you back on trial.
That is the climb. Content is the backpack. The container is the mountain.
You know the pattern. But your body still reacts like you're back in it.
You have read the books. You have watched the videos. You may understand the family roles so well that you can explain everyone else's behaviour in detail.
And still, something pulls you back.
- replaying a conversation long after it ended
- drafting and redrafting a message so nobody can accuse you of being unfair
- feeling guilty after a calm, reasonable no
- searching other people's faces for proof that your perception is real
- being no-contact or low-contact while the inner courtroom stays open
- knowing exactly what happened, yet organizing another day around the family story
Insight can disappear when the old system reaches for the role it assigned you. That gap is where The Ascent works.
What if your clarity stayed with you after the trigger passed?
Imagine the message, the familiar accusation, the old wave of guilt — and not immediately abandoning yourself.
- notice activation without giving it the steering wheel
- see the family system from the balcony instead of being pulled back onto the field
- make contact decisions from values rather than guilt or fear
- feel grief without turning it into evidence that you chose wrong
- stop overexplaining a limit that was already clear
- build your week around what matters to you
This is not a promise that the family changes. It is the practice of becoming less organized around whether they do.
The Ascent is a recovery practice — not another content library.
Random information can help you name the pattern. It rarely gives you a reliable way to practise when the pattern shows up again.
The Ascent gives you a structured map, a room where you do not have to prove the experience, regular guidance, and repeated chances to turn insight into grounded action.
You should not have to piece this work together alone.
1. The Map
A 15-chapter course and 32-page Ascent workbooklet: the assigned role, the family system, the body's adaptations, grief, introjected voices, differentiation, honest limits, and the life beyond the family story.
2. The Room
A private Sovereign Scapegoats community with people who understand why one interaction can reopen years of doubt. Participate, or learn quietly. You do not have to perform to belong.
3. The Guide
Two live calls each week with Blake (coach, facilitator, educator — not your therapist in this room). Ask questions, examine a pattern, apply the work. Replays if you cannot attend live.
4. The Practice
Prompts, worksheets, reality-testing tools, somatic practices, and language for guilt, grief, contact decisions, rumination, and not overexplaining.
Basecamp, not another feed.
You get a private Circle space (Sovereign Scapegoats) where the pattern is already known. You do not spend the first hour proving it happened.
The week
- Community call (the campfire) — a topic, then talk. Wednesday 12pm ET
- Office hours — a short teaching from Blake, then open questions. Sunday 4pm ET
- Between calls — course chapters, workbook, a prompt. Listening is enough at the start.
- If you miss a call — the replay library. Return when you can.
The gear (same language inside the tent)
- The map — four quadrants: inner world, body, relationships, the family system
- The compass — a personal manifesto you actually use when guilt shows up
- The Bill of Rights — limits you can hold without a closing argument

Blake’s role here is coach, facilitator, educator. Not your therapist.
The goal is not to become better at analyzing the family. It is to become more available for your own life.
From absorbing to observing
See the system from the balcony.
From fawning to grounded choice
Pause long enough to choose.
From inner critic to inner mentor
Separate your conscience from the voice the family installed.
From contact anxiety to differentiated choice
No-contact, low-contact, or continued contact as context, not a loyalty test.
From carrying shame to returning it
Stop treating the family's disowned material as evidence against you.
From assigned role to self-authored life
Values, relationships, work, and a future on your second mountain.
Everything is designed to help insight survive contact with real life.

A rhythm, not a feed.
This work needs more than a stream of posts. The week has a shape without demanding that you live in the feed.
Office hours with Blake — Sunday 4pm ET
A question, a recent interaction, a concept that needs grounding.
Community call — Wednesday 12pm ET
Teaching, shared practice, application.
Between calls
Course, workbook, a prompt, or simply read.
When you miss a call
Replay library. Return when you can.
Built for the whole system — not just the story in your head.
- Bowen — differentiation, triangles, multigenerational patterns
- IFS — protectors, polarized parts, the voices carried inside
- Jungian — projection, identity, grief, the unlived life
- Integral / four quadrants — inner world, body, culture, and system together
- Nervous-system-informed practice — what happens when insight is not enough to settle the alarm
The map matters. The practice is what helps you live it.
What members notice
I feel like we are coming out of the dark ages when it comes to generational trauma and dysfunctional family systems. Blake has managed to take the best of the best in terms of past thinkers like Murray Bowen and John Bradshaw and combined them with current voices such as Jerry Wise, Jay Reed and others and coalesce them into a very powerful message. He is fluent in a way that really affirms what so many of us have suffered. He is one of us as well, so he knows what it's like. I really appreciate the work he is doing.

This may be a fit if…
- You grew up as the scapegoat, truth-teller, “difficult one,” or family problem.
- You understand the concepts and still lose your footing when guilt, grief, pressure, or contact returns.
- You want a structured map and regular practice without beginning with intensive 1:1 work.
- You want a room that understands the pattern without prescribing one contact decision.
- You are ready to look at the life you want, not only at what the family did.
This is probably not the right fit if…
- You want a space only to vent.
- You want Blake or the group to decide what you should do about your family.
- You want a diagnosis of a relative.
- You need immediate crisis or emergency support.
- You need confidential, individualized treatment rather than an educational course and community.
I built The Ascent for the gap between insight and lived change.
I kept meeting people who had already worked extraordinarily hard. They could explain the family system — and still become unsure of themselves when pressure, grief, or one message from home returned.
The issue was not a lack of intelligence. Many people needed a specialist map, a paced structure, and a place to practise with others who understood the assigned role.
I am Blake Anderson, MSW, RSW: coach, educator, and community facilitator in this container. My clinical psychotherapy practice is separate, jurisdiction-dependent, and session-based. In The Ascent I am not your therapist.
The work focuses on scapegoating and narcissistic or emotionally immature family systems: identity, the body, grief, differentiation, present-day choices. Frameworks: Bowen, IFS, Jungian, Integral, nervous-system-informed practice. I will not tell you that one contact decision fits everyone.

FAQ
I've already done therapy and years of content. How is this different?
The Ascent is for the point where understanding has outpaced practice. Less individualized than therapy; more relational than a standalone course. Blake is not your therapist in this room.
Is The Ascent therapy?
No. Educational course and community. It does not create a psychotherapy relationship and does not replace clinical treatment, medical care, or crisis support.
Will this tell me to go no-contact?
No. Contact choices are context-dependent, not a moral hierarchy.
What if I mostly want to listen?
You may participate as much or as little as you choose. The space is moderated. You do not have to perform.
What if I cannot attend live calls?
Replays. Self-paced course. Join from any timezone.
Can I join from outside Ontario?
Yes. Course and community are education worldwide. Psychotherapy is jurisdiction-limited.
Should I start with The Ascent or 1:1?
Ascent if you want structure, peers, and a 90-day held practice. A $175 session if one situation is tangled enough that you want individualized attention first. The $1,200 package if you want both bounded coaching and the group container. Do not treat the group as therapy.
What if I am in crisis?
The Ascent is not emergency care. If you may harm yourself or someone else, or you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or 988 in Canada/the US now.
You do not need to keep proving the family story wrong.
There is another kind of freedom: trust what you see, hold onto yourself when the old pressure returns, and build a life that no longer depends on the family's agreement.
If you want a map, a serious practice, and a room that already knows why this is hard — start the 90-day climb.
